Low-Calorie Recipes – Test

Delicous Low-Calorie recipes can be hard to come by and without them, it can be so difficult to stay on any kind of diet. So, I put together a list of recipes I love to use when I am diet or just trying to maintain my weight. WIth the holidays coming, I try to have as many good recipes I can to help myself stay on track. So far, I have collected recipes for Low-Calorie Smoothies and Low-Calorie Overnight Oats, but more are to come.

Overnight Oats

Overnight oats were initially introduced to me by a former fitness instructor of mine. His initial recipe was 1/2 cup of oats, 1 banana, 1 tablespoon of peanut butters and a cup of almond milk. After my first try, I was hooked. But, the calorie content was higher than I would like. This recipe runs about 400 calories and close to 500 on those days I wanted to add two tablespoons of peanut butter, which, I am not going to lie, was more frequent then not. So, I needed something a little less in calorie to start my day so I began looking for new recipes.

I have always liked oatmeal. It is savory and keeps me full all morning, but, prior to my discovery of overnight oats, never made them too often simply because I am not great in the morning and never felt like pulling out a pot, cooking the oatmeal, cleaning the pot. As a working mother or two, it was too much. I tried instant oats, but was always hungry an hour later. I love overnight oats because I can make them the night before and there are no pots to clean. Plus, there are so many variations, I never feel like I am eating the same thing and I can eat them cold or heat them up depending on my mood.

Low-Calorie Smoothies

I make smoothies to get more vegetables in my diet. I tend to resort to spinach for my smoothies. Spinach has always been my green vegetable of choice in all eating ventures especially in my smoothies, however, I can really use any type of leafy green in my smoothie, such as kale, roamine lettuce, chard, arugula, avocado, celery, cucumber and more.

Smoothies can also be an excellent source of protein. There are many ways to work protein into a smoothie such as protein powder, peanut butter (my favorite), almond butter, chia seeds, milk and more.

To keep the diet sustainable and to keep my husband and I from worrying about shopping for and making two separate meals and then figure out what to feed our kids, I began researching low-calorie meals our whole family could enjoy. I
